What’s the ‘Problem’ with Workplace Accommodation? A Disability Policy Journey Over Time

To level the playing field in employment, Convention of Rights Persons with Disabilities require state parties to ensure provision reasonable accommodation workplace. The international literature shows that barriers workplace (WA) arise during recruitment, hiring, and retention. In this paper, we complement prior research by examining how WA is represented policy documents targeting disability employment Norway over past 50 years. Bacchi’s analysis framework inspired discussion. reveals a pattern three time periods: 1) segregation, including applying holistic approach responsibility for WA; 2) integration, an activation stimulating employer responsibility; 3) inclusion, holding employers more responsible. results lead us ask whether too much financial work-inclusion efforts increase among disabled people are currently left up employers.
